Biological Activity

Phenothrin, also called sumithrin, is a synthetic pyrethroid that kills adult fleas and ticks.

Customer Product Validations & Biological Datas
Source PLoS One (2015). Figure 1. Phenothrin
Method Insecticide Sensitivity
Cell Lines Honey Bee Stocks
Concentrations 0.5 ug/bee
Incubation Time 24 h
Results Phenothrin sensitivity significantly decreased by 1.7-, 1.8-, and 2.1-fold in 14-, 28-, and 42-dayold bees, respectively, compared to 3-day-old bees. The decrease in phenothrin sensitivity was significantly correlated with age
Protocol (for reference only)
Cell Experiment
Cell lines HepG2 cell
Preparation method The cells were exposed to increasing doses of phenothrin (20, 50, 100, 1000 μM) in the corresponding cell-culture medium. The stock solution and the dilution series (100 μM, 10 μM, 1 μM) were made in methanol. Aliquots of different concentrations of phenothrin solution or solvent control were added to the cell cultures and incubated for 1 h at 37°C. The methanol content in the cell culture fluid was 10% (v/v) for each treatment, the concentration found to be non-genotoxic and non-cytotoxic in our previous experiments (unpublished).

For example, to modify the dose of Compound A used for a mouse (20 mg/kg) to a dose based on the BSA for a rat, multiply 20 mg/kg by the Km factor for a mouse and then divide by the Km factor for a rat. This calculation results in a rat equivalent dose for Compound A of 10 mg/kg.
