Biological Activity

Lipopolysaccharides (LPS) is an endotoxin derived from the outer leaflet of the outer membrane of Gram-negative bacteria. Lipopolysaccharide is a highly immunogenic antigen which can enhance immune responses. This product is derived from Escherichia coli O55:B5. Its potency is more than 500,000 EU/mg.

Animal A (mg/kg) = Animal B (mg/kg) multiplied by  Animal B Km
Animal A Km

For example, to modify the dose of Compound A used for a mouse (20 mg/kg) to a dose based on the BSA for a rat, multiply 20 mg/kg by the Km factor for a mouse and then divide by the Km factor for a rat. This calculation results in a rat equivalent dose for Compound A of 10 mg/kg.

Perflubron

Perflubron (1-Bromoperfluorooctane, Perfluorooctyl bromide, Oxygent, PFOB) exhibits anti-inflammatory activity thus decreases cytokine production in human alveolar macrophages. Perflubron also attenuates oxidative damage to both biological and nonbiological systems which is independent of its anti-inflammatory properties.
