Dyclonine HCl is an oral anaesthetic, reversibly binds to activated sodium channels on the neuronal membrane, thereby decreasing the neuronal membrane's permeability to sodium ions, leading to an increased threshold for excitation. Dyclonine (Dyclocaine) hydrochloride is also an orally effective ALDH covalent inhibitor (crosses blood-brain barrier), with an IC50 of 35 µM for ALDH2 and 76 µM for ALDH3A1.
