Biological Activity

Ammonium persulfate substitute (APS substitute) is a product used as a substitute for ammonium persulfate in PAGE and SDS-PAGE gel preparation. The 10% solution prepared with this product is more stable than 10% ammonium persulfate solution when stored at 4℃.

Usage

(1) This product is usually prepared as a 10% aqueous solution and then used to prepare various PAGE gels. 10% Ammonium Persulfate Replacement Aqueous Solution is used in the same way as 10% Ammonium Persulfate in gel preparation.

(2) 10% Ammonium persulfate substitute aqueous solution is less stable at room temperature, and can be stored at 4℃ for 5-7 days and -20℃ for 1-2 months.

Animal A (mg/kg) = Animal B (mg/kg) multiplied by  Animal B Km
Animal A Km

For example, to modify the dose of Compound A used for a mouse (20 mg/kg) to a dose based on the BSA for a rat, multiply 20 mg/kg by the Km factor for a mouse and then divide by the Km factor for a rat. This calculation results in a rat equivalent dose for Compound A of 10 mg/kg.

BSA is a highly purified, lyophilized albumin, suitable for Westerns, enzyme systems, protein standards, hybridizations and as a protease-sensitive immunoassays. It is also perfectly suitable as a nutrient in cell culture media, with low interference and backgrounds and is ideal for most standard molecular biology experiments.

Avidin (from egg white)

Avidin is homotetrameric protein (68kDa) that is obtained from egg whites. Avidin forms an extremely strong complex with d-biotin (Kd ~ 10-15). This activity has made both avidin and biotin extremely useful labels in immunochemical methods of detection and quantitation.

Polyvinylpyrrolidone

Polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP, Polyvidone, Povidone) is an inert, water-soluble, non-toxic, temperature-resistant, ph-stable, biocompatible, biodegradable polymer that helps encapsulate and meet the needs of hydrophilic and lipopphilic drugs. Polyvinylpyrrolidone has been widely tested and used as an effective wound healing promoter.

Acrylamide

Acrylamide is a neurotoxic monomer with a wide range of industrial uses. It is a precursor compound of polyacrylamide.

Gelatin (from porcine skin)

Gelatin is a heterogeneous mixture of water-soluble proteins of high average molecular masses, present in collagen. Gelatin has been used in many applications. It has use in coating cell culture to improve attachment of cells, being added to PCR to stabilize Taq DNA, as a blocking reagent in Western blotting, ELISA, and immunochemistry, and as a component of media for species differentiation in bacteriology.
