Biological Activity

Forsythoside B inhibits TNF-alpha, IL-6, IκB and modulate NF-κB. Forsythoside B concentration-dependently down-regulates the levels of TNF-α, IL-6 and high-mobility group-box 1 protein (HMGB1) in lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-stimulated RAW264.7 cells, inhibits the IκB kinase (IKK) pathway and modulated NF-κB.

Forsythoside B at doses higher than 8 mg/kg produces a significant neuroprotective potential in cerebral ischemia and reperfusion rats. Forsythoside B (20 mg/kg) demonstrates significant neuroprotective activity even after delayed administration at 1 h, 3 h and 5 h after cerebral ischemia and reperfusion.

Shikonin (C.I. 75535, Anchusin, Anchusa acid, Alkanna Red, Isoarnebin 4, NSC 252844) is an effective and specific inhibitor of Pyruvate kinase M2 (PKM2). Shikonin is the main ingredient of Lithosia, a Chinese herb with a variety of biological activities. Shikonin acts as an anti-inflammatory by inhibiting tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α), Proteasome can inhibit the activation of nuclear factor-κB (NF-κB) signaling pathway.

Mulberroside A

Mulberroside A is one of the main bioactive components in Mulberry (Morus alba L.). Mulberroside A reduced the expression of TNF-α, IL-1β and IL-6, inhibited the activation of NALP3, Caspase-1 and NF-κB, and phosphorylated ERK, JNK and P38. Mulberroside A has anti-inflammatory and anti-apoptotic effects.
