Biological Activity

Recombinant Human TRAIL/Apo2L Protein is a cytotoxic protein that can activate the rapid apoptosis of tumor cells, but does not work in normal cells. TRAIL-induced apoptosis is achieved by binding to two death signal receptors DR4 and DR5. These receptors belong to the TNFR superfamily of transmembrane proteins and contain a cytoplasmic "death domain" that activates the cell's apoptosis mechanism.

Measured by the cell growth inhibitory assay using RPMI-8226 cells, the ED50 is < 40.0 ng/ml, corresponding to a specific activity of > 2.5 × 104 units/mg.
