Recombinant Human BMP-2 Protein is a powerful osteoinductive cytokine that can be combined with collagen and synthetic hydroxyapatite and other osteoconductive carriers to induce the formation of bone and cartilage. BMP-2 also plays an important role in cardiac morphogenesis, and is expressed in lung, liver, spleen, prostate, ovary and small intestine and other tissues. The functional form of BMP-2 is a 26 kDa protein, which is composed of two identical 114 amino acid polypeptide chains (monomers) connected by a single disulfide bond. Each bmp-2 monomer is expressed as the C-terminal part of the precursor polypeptide, which also contains a 23 amino acid signal sequence for secretion and a 259 amino acid precursor. After the precursor is dimerized, the covalent bond between the propeptide (which is also a homodimer of disulfide bonds) and the mature BMP-2 ligand is cleaved by the furan-type protease.
The recombinant human BMP-2 protein contains 352 amino acids and the predicted molecular weight is 39.8kd.
Depends on its ability to induce ATDC-5 cells to produce alkaline phosphatase, the expected ED50 effectiveness is 40-100 ng/ml.
