Biological Activity

Ranistat (AS-3201) is an aldose reductase (AR) inhibitor. Aldose reductase is a rate-limiting enzyme that converts D-glucose to fructose by d-sorbitol. Renistat is associated with diabetic complications (cataract formation, retinopathy, neuropathy, nephropathy). Ranistat prevents sorbitol accumulation and is therefore expected to play a role in the study of diabetic neuropathy.
