Biological Activity

Prednisone (Adasone) is a synthetic corticosteroid agent that is particularly effective as an immunosuppressant compound. Prednisone (Adasone) is used to treat certain inflammatory diseases and (at higher doses) some types of cancer, but has significant adverse effects. Because prednisone (Adasone) suppresses the immune system, prednisone (Adasone) leaves patients more susceptible to infections. Prednisone (Adasone) is usually taken orally but can be delivered by intramuscular injection or intravenous injection. Prednisone (Adasone) has a mainly glucocorticoid effect. Prednisone (Adasone) is converted by the liver into prednisolone, which is the active compound and also a steroid.

Animal A (mg/kg) = Animal B (mg/kg) multiplied by  Animal B Km
Animal A Km

For example, to modify the dose of Compound A used for a mouse (20 mg/kg) to a dose based on the BSA for a rat, multiply 20 mg/kg by the Km factor for a mouse and then divide by the Km factor for a rat. This calculation results in a rat equivalent dose for Compound A of 10 mg/kg.
