Pentosan Polysulfate Sodium (PPS) is a semi-synthetic polysaccharide sulphate compound with oral bioactivity, exhibiting anti-inflammatory and chondrogenic properties. Pentosan Polysulfate Sodium also possesses anti-HIV-1 activity. Pentosan Polysulfate Sodium has been shown to inhibit HlV-1 activity with an ED50 of 0.19 ug/mL in MT-4 cells. lt inhibits HlV-1 antigen expression in HUT-78 cells at an ED50 of 0.02 ug/ml, and complete inhibition of HIV-1 antigen expression isobtained at a concentration of 4.0 ug/mL. Pentosan Polysulfate Sodium suppresses NF-kB, decreases the proinflammatory actions of TNFa, and decreases high alucose and advanced glycation end products (AGEs) stimulated MCP-1 production.
