Biological Activity

IKarisoside A is a natural compound isolated from Epimedium koreanum (Berberidaceae) with anti-inflammatory properties. IKarisoside A possesses cardioprotective effect in prevention of ischemia/ reperfusion injury and reduce the myocardial infraction, the mechnism is due to the reduction of the injury of free radicals. Ikarisoside A reduced the release of pro-inflammatory cytokines, such as tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-alpha) and interleukin-1 beta (IL-1 beta). Furthermore, Ikarisoside A inhibited the activity of p38 kinase and nuclear factor-kappaB.
