Evans blue is a biological dye, for detection of cell survival. Evans Blue can not penetrate healthy cell membrane, but can penetrate into death cell. Evans Blue is also a potent inhibitor of L-glutamate uptake via the membrane bound excitatory amino acid transporter (EAAT). It is able to antagonize AMPA and kainate receptor mediated currents with IC50 values of 220 and 150 nM, respectively.

For example, to modify the dose of Compound A used for a mouse (20 mg/kg) to a dose based on the BSA for a rat, multiply 20 mg/kg by the Km factor for a mouse and then divide by the Km factor for a rat. This calculation results in a rat equivalent dose for Compound A of 10 mg/kg.
