Biological Activity

Ruthenium red (Ammoniated ruthenium oxychloride) is a polycationic dye widely used for electron microscopy (EM) of cells, tissues and vegetative bacteria. Ruthenium red is also a L-type calcium current (ICa) blocker, blocks Ca2+ uptake and release, and voltage-sensitive Ca2+ channels. Ruthenium red strongly reacts with phospholipids and fatty acids and binds to acidic mucopolysaccharides.

Conversion of different model animals based on BSA (Value based on data from FDA Draft Guidelines)
Species Mouse Rat Rabbit Guinea pig Hamster Dog
Weight (kg) 0.02 0.15 1.8 0.4 0.08 10
Body Surface Area (m2) 0.007 0.025 0.15 0.05 0.02 0.5

Animal A (mg/kg) = Animal B (mg/kg) multiplied by  Animal B Km
Animal A Km

For example, to modify the dose of Compound A used for a mouse (20 mg/kg) to a dose based on the BSA for a rat, multiply 20 mg/kg by the Km factor for a mouse and then divide by the Km factor for a rat. This calculation results in a rat equivalent dose for Compound A of 10 mg/kg.

JC-1 Mitochondrial Membrane Potential Assay Kit is a kit that uses JC-1 as a fluorescent probe to quickly and sensitively detect the transmembrane potential difference of tissues, cells or purified mitochondria. It can be used for early apoptosis detection.

Rhod-2 AM is a fluorescent, mitochondrial probe (λex=552 nm, λem=581 nm).

Calcein Red, AM

Calcein AM is one of the most popular fluorescent probes used for labeling and monitoring cellular functions of live cells. Non-fluorescent Calcein Red AM can easily get into live cells and hydrolyzes to generate strongly fluorescent Calcein Red dye. Calcein Red dye can be monitored with the common TRITC/Cy3 filter set.
