Description: Streptomycin is a potent aminoglycoside antibiotic that binds strongly to nucleic acids, thereby interfering with and blocking protein synthesis while allowing continued synthesis of RNA and DNA. In addition, Streptomycin is a blocker of stretch-activated and mechanosensitive ion channels in neurons and cardiomyocytes, and is a commonly used culture medium antibiotic.
