Biological Activity

Zerumbone is a TRAIL-induced apoptosis potentiator. It potentiates TRAIL-induced apoptosis through the up-regulation of DR4 and DR5 expression and the down-regulation of cFLIP. Zerumbone has very little or no cytotoxic effect on the normal human endothelial cells and dermal fibroblasts. Zerumbone is a sesquiterpene isolated from in Zingiber zerumbet Smith (wild ginger). Zerumbone is a monocyclic sesquiterpene compound isolated from the rhizomes of Zingiber zerumbet Smith. Zerumbone potently inhibits the activation of Epstein-Barr virus with an IC50 of 0.14 mM. Zerumbone has anti-cancer, antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and anti-proliferative activity.

Animal A (mg/kg) = Animal B (mg/kg) multiplied by  Animal B Km
Animal A Km

For example, to modify the dose of Compound A used for a mouse (20 mg/kg) to a dose based on the BSA for a rat, multiply 20 mg/kg by the Km factor for a mouse and then divide by the Km factor for a rat. This calculation results in a rat equivalent dose for Compound A of 10 mg/kg.
