Biological Activity

Activin and inhibin are two closely related protein complexes with almost direct opposite biological effects. Activin, a member of the TGF - β superfamily, is a disulfide bonded dimer protein originally purified from gonadal fluid as a protein that stimulates the release of pituitary follicle stimulating hormone (FSH). Statins/activins are involved in regulating many different functions, such as thalamic and pituitary hormone secretion, gonadal hormone secretion, germ cell development and maturation, erythrocyte differentiation, insulin secretion, nerve cell survival, embryonic axial development or bone growth, depending on their subunit composition. Activins are homo-dimers or heterodimers of various β subtypes, while inhibin is a unique α subunit and one of various β subunits.

Measured by its ability to induce SMAD signaling in 293-Activin A Res cells, the ED50 for this effect is 1.3 ng/ml.

Animal A (mg/kg) = Animal B (mg/kg) multiplied by  Animal B Km
Animal A Km

For example, to modify the dose of Compound A used for a mouse (20 mg/kg) to a dose based on the BSA for a rat, multiply 20 mg/kg by the Km factor for a mouse and then divide by the Km factor for a rat. This calculation results in a rat equivalent dose for Compound A of 10 mg/kg.

Related Recombinant Proteins Products
Recombinant Human IL-10 (CHO)

Interleukin-10 (IL-10) is usually secreted as a homodimer and, upon binding to its receptor, inhibits the synthesis of a number of cytokines, including IFN-gamma, IL-2, IL-3, TNF and GM-CSF produced by activated macrophages and Th2 cells.

Recombinant Human IL-5 (CHO)

Interleukin-5 (IL-5) is responsible for the activities attributed to eosinophil differentiating factor, B cell growth factor II and T cell-replacing factor (TRF). IL-5 plays an important role in inducing cell-mediated immunity against parasitic infections and certain tumors.

Recombinant Human Tau-F Protein (E.coli)

Tau proteins are proteins which contain four Tau/MAP repeats. They promote microtubule assembly and stability, and might be involved in the establishment and maintenance of neuronal polarity.

Recombinant Human Tau Protein (E. coli, His Tag)

Tau proteins are proteins that stabilize microtubules. Tau protein is a highly soluble microtubule-associated protein (MAP). In humans, these proteins are mostly found in neurons compared to non-neuronal cells. One of tau's main functions is to modulate the stability of axonal microtubules.

Recombinant Rat IL-23 Protein (HEK293, C-His)

IL-23 (IL-23 alpha & IL-12 beta Heterodimer) Protein is a recombinant protein dimer complex containing rat-derived IL-23 alpha & IL-12 beta Heterodimer protein, expressed by HEK293.
